Why is it that everyone (ou presque) is so miserable in Britain? Why do I get the feeling that somehow people are happy to cultivate unhappiness and love constant ranting and moaning, yet without doing anything about it?
For sure there's a lack of sun, the weather is on the wet side, the food is far from being the best in world, beer is warm, people are 'slightly on the large side', you don't get a peek on the cheek from lady colleagues and friends in the morning, and England haven't won the world cup for a while. I could carry on and on ...
Then again, there's plenty to shout and be proud about, some amazing coastline and beautiful country, the best breakfast money can buy (traditional english breakfast), Yorkshire puddings (!!), the Queen, the unique pub culture, excellent music and bands of all types and genres, great humor, fantastic businesses and opportunities, one of the best sporting countries in the world especially for football, rugby, formula 1 and car racing generally.
Thankfully there are some exceptions who help brighten things up, a little ... So, thank God for the likes of Jonathan Ross (worth every penny), Jamie Oliver, Michael Palin, Rick Stein, the Scots and Welsh, and one of my favorites, Jack Dee ...!!! I am sure I am forgetting a few, but you get the idea ...
So why, please someone, tell me WHY it is that most Brits enjoy and cultivate misery?
It's not a surprise to me that so many people are looking to escape from miserable blighty, anywhere has to be better than the UK... France of course tops the list, and people I talk to who are thinking moving across the channel all tell me the same thing, they've just had enough and aspire to a happier and healthier lifestyle, it's a 'package', not just the sun or cheap wine. People are seeking a PROPER and BETTER LIFE!
I guess if places such as Australia, Miami, the Far East or Canada were closer, no doubt they'll be somewhere at the top of the list too. I think the UK should be given a health warning and all people moving over to the UK to work and/or live should be warned!
As for me, well, it's only a matter of time ... so working hard and playing the lottery every week!
So cheer up Britain, or shut up!
