The development
Le Clos Iriberri is an eco-responsible development (conforming to low-energy consumption norms) nestled at the heart of the Le Seque eco-quarter in a beautiful national forest, on a small island, facing a lake. Of contemporary architecture, with pure lines, generous spaces opening onto large terraces and wholesome materials, the development integrates itself gently into the landscape and offers an exceptional alternative way of life near the urban environment of Bayonne. Local good quality eco-friendly and long-lasting materials have been used, with a responsible maintenance of rain water and photovoltaic systems in place. Green spaces have also been created to increase the local biodiversity. Suspended footbridges, protected by climbing plants, link the various buildings offering plunging views over the surrounding natural site. All in all, the programme is a well thought out choice for living and investing in a quality and sustainable natural environment.

The location
Le Clos Iriberri is in Le Seque, a new eco-quarter being built just 5 km north of the centre of Bayonne, offering a new and exciting way of living. Le Seque will extend over 35 acres of land with a capacity for 1600 new inhabitants, in low energy consumption dwellings with a long term, controlled maintenance of water and waste. Bayonne itself is a beautiful city dating back to Roman times, set at the confluence of the Nive and Adour rivers, the cultural capital of the French Basque country. The city is essentially divided into two by the Nive, with Grand Bayonne on one side, the commercial and civic hub (shops, the cathedral and pretty narrow streets) and Petit Bayonne on the other, with lively bars and restaurants as well as important museums. As a lively place, there are of course numerous festivals many of which reflect the Basque culture, such as the 5-day Fetes de Bayonne (with bullfighting), jazz, ham, theatre and pelota festivals.

Activities
Bayonne has the longest tradition of bull-fighting in France so if it this appeals, the season runs from July to September. A large variety of sports are on offer including horse riding, golf, Basque pelota, bowling, swimming, skating, tennis, cycling and after all that exercise, a spa and well being centre with hammam. The Atlantic coast is only 10 minutes away with its beaches and water sports. The Pyrenees are half an hour away for skiing.

Local food and specialities
Bayonne is known for its fine chocolates, produced in the town for 500 years and Bayonne ham, a cured ham seasoned with peppers from nearby Espelette. Izarra, a liqueur, is distilled locally. It is said by some that Bayonne is the birthplace of mayonnaise, supposedly a corruption of Bayonnaise, the French adjective describing the city's people and produce. Now bayonnaise can refer to a particular mayonnaise flavoured with the Espelette chillis. Other dishes include Pintxo (Basque canaps) and fish dishes such as pibales, koxkera hake, prawn donuts.

Aquitaine

Administratively, Aquitaine consists of 5 departments. Three of these are on the coast, Gironde with Bordeaux, Landes and the Pyrenees-Atlantiques which is made up of the ancient Bearn and the French part of the Pays Basque. Inland there is Lot-et-Garonne and the very popular Dordogne.

Aquitaine lazily stretches its sandy beaches over 270 kilometres from the Pointe de Grave to the Adour, and the pines planted in the dunes protect this beautiful coastline. This seashore continues to the foot of the Pyrenees right to the Pays Basque, where it breaks up into many natural harbours.

The Aquitaine region is only 1.5 hours by plane from London and Bordeaux airportconnects to many internal and international destinations. By TGV train, Paris is only a 3 hour journey and there is an extensive network of good motorways and dual carriageways.

In the Aquitaine region, the people tell you that Mother Nature is at her very best...
