LA TURBIE: A HISTORIC JEWEL OVERLOOKING MONACO
La Turbie, this magnificent town perched above the Principality of Monaco, offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Mediterranean. It is dominated by the majestic Augustus Trophy, a testimony to its rich past. Its history dates back to the Roman era in the 1st century BC. It was then under the domination of the Republic of Genoa in the Middle Ages before becoming an integral part of the Principality of Monaco. At the end of the 19th century, La Turbie was annexed to France and became one of the popular destinations for tourists of the "Belle Époque". The charm of its glorious past has been carefully preserved, with a harmonious blend of classical, medieval and baroque styles. The village, partly built with stones salvaged from the ruins of the Trophy of Augustus, is full of treasures, including cobbled streets, arched passageways, a stunning Baroque church and a unique Roman fountain.
