River Ports and Gastronomy

Several river ports exist, including Nogent-sur-Marne marina, one of the largest in the region. The Marne banks have historically attracted artists such as Pissarro, Cézanne, Utrillo, and Brayer.

Historic Landmarks of Val-de-Marne

Val-de-Marne boasts a rich history and several notable landmarks. The Roman Aqueduct from the 2nd century once spanned the Bièvre on a 330-metre bridge, traces of which can still be seen at Cachan and Arcueil. The Médicis Aqueduct at Cachan, with its remaining 17th-century bridge, was constructed by order of Marie de Médici to deliver water from Rungis to the Palais of Luxembourg. This impressive structure stretches 1.6 km, with each arch's center reaching 109 metres in height. Milling was a major industry in the 19th century, but today only the Moulin de la Chaussée remains intact at Saint-Maurice, restored for preservation.
